Fleet Captain: Cameron Smith

A strong junior fleet is essential to any club’s future: Chelmarsh is no exception to this rule. Who knows, the next Ben Ainslie could be amongst you! There are plenty of friendly instructors here at Chelmarsh SC to help train you and offer advice as you progress.

We had a successful year in 2014, which saw not only some familiar faces, but also a lot of new ones, progress from Stages 1/2/3 through to racing. This meant our junior regatta, held in September, could be run as a racing event, with hints and tips thrown in by our young instructors to help improve the skills of those taking part. A fantastic day was had by all!

We run a series of learn to sail course - check out our Juniors Training page for more information. If racing isn’t for you, then you are more than welcome to come down and sail around at your leisure.

Juniors out learning to sail

Race Training

There will be a number of race training sessions run throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Between July and October, there will be a number of ‘Better Sailing’ sessions. Anyone can attend, and each session will focus on one aspect of sailing. This could be from launching/ recovering to tacking and gybing.

There is usually a small cost for these sessions, but all the money goes into club funds to help towards things such as maintaining club boats, pontoons etc.

Finally, the 2015 Junior Regatta will be held on Saturday 5th September. This will be a great opportunity to show off the skills you’ve developed over the summer months! Further details will be published nearer the day.
