Courses at Chelmarsh

Instructor showing the ropes...tying knots

RYA Dingy Instructors

As part of being an RYA Training Institution we run courses for Instructors.  This ensures that you have the quality of instruction expected of such an establishment.  Instructors cover all aspects of sailing for their trainees, from showing them the ropes (quite literally and how to tie them!) to how to right yourself after a capsize.

Our next course for instructors is detailed below.  Please complete the form and post back to Chelmarsh Sailing Club, enclosing a cheque for the full amount, payable to Chelmarsh Sailing Club.

Even on the coldest days we sail... and have rescue in full operation

Safety Training

We take safety very seriously at Chelmarsh.

We have two new ‘jaffas’ that we operate as our safety boats and require all our safety officers who on duty to have been through our training course, as set out by the RYA.

We also have regular First Aid training Courses running. Dates for this (and other events) can also be found on our What’s On? Page.

Gain confidence and make friends, whilst learning to sail with us

Learn

to Sail

We provide Adult and Junior RYA Level 1 and 2 courses.

These should enable you to be able to sail a dinghy in light winds.  In order to help your skills develop we run a series of ‘Improver Days’ with instructors on hand as well as knowledgeable club members.

Our first set of course dates are now out (see below).  Further dates will follow later in the year.

Improve any aspect of your sailing from launching, racing to capsize and righting

Improve your Sailing

Get some tips from our experienced sailors.

No matter what you want to achieve, be it, successful capsizing and righting, to starting to race Improvers Days are invaluable.

There will be two sailors in our two safety boats giving advice and encouragement. The format will depend on the number of boats and the weather. No need to book, just turn up. The sessions will start at noon and finish at 17:00. It is hoped to have a short interval during the afternoon.

Learn to Paddleboard

Following our recent successful bid for funding from Sport England we are delighted to now offer SUP courses on Chelmarsh Reservoir.

We have a variety of sessions, instructors and all the equipment for you to get started on SUP, or to improve your existing skills.  Read more here.
