Safety Courses at

Chelmarsh

Even on the coldest days we sail... and have rescue in full operation

We take safety very seriously at Chelmarsh

SUPing, Swimming and Sailing take place, no matter what the weather, and ensuring that all on and in the water are safe is a key part of the club. There is a fleet of volunteer SUPers who keep pace with those taking part in OWS; SUP have buddy rules (which can be downloaded from our documents page) and sailors have rescue boats, in the form of two ribs or ‘jaffa’s’.

We require all our safety officers who are on duty to have been through our training course, as set out by the RYA to operate these rescue boats.

Aquatic First Aid
INFO	This is a one day course for sailors who have a basic understanding of first aid
SKILLS GAINED	On completion of this course will be confident in aspects of first aid required in aquatic conditions, including: resuscitation techniques for yachtsmen; and a knowledge of the treatment for hypothermia.
	The course meets the requirements of the: RYA National Sailing Scheme Syllabus For Instructors RYA Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the course.

Powerboat Level 2
INFO	This is a two day course for MEMBERS ONLY
SKILLS GAINED	On completion of this course will be confident in powerboat safety; close quarter boat handling; planing manoeuvres; man overboard recovery; basic powerboat theory; and collision regulations. On completion, you should be able to handle a powerboat in familiar waters by day.
	The course meets the requirements of the: RYA National Sailing Scheme Syllabus For Instructors RYA Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the course.

Powerboat Safety
INFO	This is a two day course for MEMBERS ONLY who have completed Powerboat Level 2
SKILLS GAINED	On completion of this course will be confident in Recovery techniques; and Fleet management.
	The course meets the requirements of the: RYA National Sailing Scheme Syllabus For Instructors RYA Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the course.
